FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :
What is EFI?
Electronic Fuel Injection, or EFI, is a system that uses a computer to control the fuel flowing into an engine
as well controlling the ignition. Carburetors are mechanical devices that also meter fuel, but have inherent drawbacks
due to their mechanical nature. EFI is considered to be superior to carburetion because it allows more precise
fuel metering during all engine-operating conditions. Carburetor performance is greatly hindered with changes in
altitude, temperature, and even day-to-day changes in the weather. EFI systems measure these environmental changes
and can compensate automatically. Other benefits of EFI include easier engine starting, lower emissions, better
fuel economy and added performance.
APT's competition consists mainly of complex automotive-based engine control systems. These systems are suitable
for passenger cars, but their large number of parts and high unit cost prohibit mass use in the small-engine markets;
additionally, small engines would require engineering redesigns to adopt these technologies, adding significant
cost in tooling and manufacturing process changes.
How does the SmartCarb™ compare to fuel injection and other carburetors?
Performance :
The SmartCarb™ gains performance over fuel injection due to it's ability to better atomize fuel prior to combustion. The breaking of "long-chain hydro-carbons" result in a significant energy release creating performance gains during combustion.
Emissions :
An unprecedented decrease in harmful emissions is another benefit of the SmartCarb™. The reduction of emissions
in internal combustion engines and the improved unlocking of energy potential in liquid fuel are addressed with
a simple proposition: the better atomization of fuel (reducing the size of fuel particulates), the more powerful
and complete burn results in a cleaner engine.
Fuel Economy :
The SmartCarb™'s ability to better emulsify fuel allows the engine to run more powerfully and efficiently using far less fuel. Conservation is the answer to the rising problems of supply and demand, and better
management of natural resources. It is the key to transportation and recreational freedom.
Maintenance:
Due to the SmartCarbs™ simplistic single point fuel design, the chance of failure is less then that of an complex
electronic system consisting of an engine control unit, oxygen sensor, high pressure fuel pump and injectors. The
days of stressful complicated and fussy carburetors are also over. The SmartCarb™ comes together with
five primary pieces and can be assembled in less than 10 minutes. The SmartCarb™ allows virtually any
"tinkerer" or D.Y.I of sorts to work on it if need be.
Engine Longevity:
Unburnt fuel produces hard carbon in an engine. It also contaminates and reduces the viscosity of oil.
The SmartCarb™ atomizes fuel so efficiently there is little to no unburnt fuel. The SmartCarb™ assists an engine to run at or near its maximum thermal efficiency. This translates to longer engine
life.
Cost:
The complexity of engines (engine control and fuel system technology) have caused engine repair and maintenance costs
to more than double. APT wants to return the money and power back to the consumer. The SmartCarb™ allows self and/or low cost repairs to the fuel system. The SmartCarb™ sells for less than ½ the
cost of fuel injection and even most current carburetors.
Can I buy one of these?
The SmartCarb™ is sold as both an OEM and aftermarket consumer product. SmartCarb™ throat sizes typically
can be slightly smaller than standard OEM carburetors. The first throat sizes being manufactured in 2010 are billet
aluminum in the 20 and 25mm sizes. All sizes up to 48mm in both "side" and "top pull" throttle
connection configurations will be available. Additionally diaphragm style (without float bowl) SmartCarb™'s configurations
will be also available. E-mail us to let us know what sizes and types you desire/need.
Can this SmartCarb™ be applied to my vehicle?
Yes, this carburetor can be applied to your motorcycle, ATV, lawn tractor etc. as long as it is currently carbureted. Please E-mail us what engines size and type on what application or vehicle you have that you desire/need our SmartCarb™.
SMALL ENGINES ARE IN CRISIS!
A lawn tractor emits the same mass of emissions in one hour as a small car would driving across the continental
United States. A snowmobile could be as much as 100 times more polluting than the average car. The
average American holds onto their lawnmower for 10 years, but replaces their car every three. China
and India manufacture more than twice the volume of motorcycles than automobiles consumed each year in the United
States. Harmful engine emissions are lung irritants, which make children more susceptible to asthma, or asthma
sufferers more prone to attacks. Harmful engine emissions can cause acid rain and smog.
Ever wonder where the blue smoke from your snowmobile ends up? The particulate matter and
unburned fuel settle into the local environment, eventually finding its way into rivers and streams.
